This article tells the story of how ADHD took me to the very depths of burnout and left me debilitated and defeated. I was all but ready to accept the fact that hospitality wasn’t actually the right path for me. Until, I received my ADHD diagnosis.
After receiving this diagnosis, I worked hard to firstly accept and secondly understand the way in which my brain works. This was 50% of the battle. The remaining 50% was working with my employer to understand how we could create an environment that supported us both.
It wasn’t easy, but it was so worth it. It took a lot for me to open up about what was an incredibly difficult and dark time in my life. However, I hope that in sharing my experience, I can help others in hospitality to prevent the same thing happening to them.
Writing this article was what lead to the formation of ADHospitalityD. Allowing me to raise awareness of neurodiversity in the hospitality industry.
